We are proud to announce the winner of our 2017 Coagulation Research Grant - Dr. Christina M. Laukaitis, MD, PhD and Dr. Rohith Jesudas, MD.

They now have $20,000 to use towards their project researching EDS - Ehlers-Danlos syndrome — and its effects on hemostasis and thrombosis.

Christina M. Laukaitis, MD, PhD is an associate professor in the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She also leads the clinical genetics efforts for the Department of Medicine and the Center for Applied Genetics and Genomics. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Genetics.

She earned her MD and PhD from the University of Illinois. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN and a Medical Genetics fellowship at the University of Washington. She joined the faculty at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2008.

Dr. Laukaitis’ clinical practice and research focus on diagnosing and managing patients with genetic syndromes. She cares for a large cohort of people with various forms of Ehlers Danlos syndrome and has organized a major effort to identify genes predicting the hypermobility subtype of EDS.

Dr.Rohith Jesudas is a practicing hematologist at the bleeding and clotting disorders institute in Peoria, Illinois. He is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Dr. Jesudas completed his Medical training at the Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore. After completing his medical training, he worked at a community hospital. He then completed his pediatric training in the Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore. He briefly worked at in the department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology in Vellore before moving to Singapore where he worked as a medical officer with the Ministry of Health Holdings.

In 2010, he moved to the US to pursue a residency in Pediatrics followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. During his fellowship, he developed an interest in treating patients with bleeding and clotting disorders. On completing his fellowship, he spent a year at the University of Michigan to further develop his expertise in his area of interest. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Jesudas desires to improve the understanding of patients with bleeding disorders by collaborating with research scientists that are involved in genomic studies.
